My Lost Skill

This article is about how I lost one of my skill due to the evolution of technology. Before the arrival of smart phones, the bad boy in this figure below is my mobile phone.

This Nokia C2 is a dumb phone so it doesn't have any fancy features but it has a lot of buttons for all things like from navigating through the applications to typing, attend calls, speed dials and configurable key settings. It has sliding keyboard which makes it so cool and that's where I lost my skill, yes the typing skill on mobile phones.

I could do exactly two things with my eyes closed: sleep, and text on my Nokia C2.

Because of muscle memory, I know where all the keys are placed and how many times I have to press for each and every input.

Now in smartphones the real estate of the screen to the body ratio is getting crazy that makes some brands to invent foldable screens. And I have to look at the screen every single time to do even a simple thing like firing the flashlight, open up the camera, discard incoming calls (unless you use some smart features in settings which enable the power key to do the same) and make a call by number.

This tasks need attention to do it in smartphones. And the face-lock feature is worse of all because I can't unlock my mobile without putting it in front of my face.

But in C2 I can do this all while running, talking to someone, send a quick text during meetings and cooking. Needs less attention to the screen or even the phone itself.

There is more which I'll yap later.

And yup, that's my frustration, that's it. See ya!
